PATIENT TRANSPORT SERVICE
" serving Ferring since
1993 " |
We always have vacancies for men and women who can spare a
few hours of their time each week or month, in service of the
community in these roles:
|
Drivers |
|
- resident locally
- full drivers licence
- car owner
- comprehensive insurance*
|
|
Drivers collect the resident from their
home, take them to their appointment and then return them home
after the appointment is completed. No first-aid skills are
required - you are just transporting the resident.
The duty telephonist who accepts the passenger request will
telephone drivers to see who is available, usually with several
days notice. Drivers can decide to accept or refuse a
request if the date clashes with their diary, or for any reason.
While all volunteers give freely of their time, drivers are
reimbursed for mileage at the current Government rate.
* Drivers must advise their
insurance company that they are volunteering but this should not
affect premiums |
|
Telephonists |
|
- resident locally
- work from home - 1 x 2hr shift, once a fortnight
- training given
- telephone supplied
|
|
Telephonists take calls from
residents requesting transport, liaise with drivers to fill
the request and keep a register. A telephone is supplied.
Telephonists are asked to complete one shift, once each
fortnight, on a regular scheduled basis, between 9.30am -
11.30 am. To cover holidays or necessary absences, shifts
can easily be swapped.
This is a very satisfying and also enjoyable role for
Ferring volunteers, especially housebound residents. |
|
Co-ordinators |
|
|
|
Co-ordinators collect the telephone
and register bag from the duty telephonist's home after the
switchboard shift (9.30 - 11.30am) has finished, and deliver
the bag to next days telephonist. And repeat Monday to
Friday.
The Co-ordinator works the 5 day shift once every 4 weeks.
This can be done on foot as all telephonists live in
Ferring.
